Without Gratitude (Tanka)

Without gratitude

Expecting seems like folly

Disastrous mix

One day they will awaken

And all they had will be gone

Time Wasted – A Tanka

Time wasted is gone

Blown like dried leaves in the wind

Scattered far and wide

Imperative, it is

Never to squander this gift

A Full Life

I’ve lived longer than many

And not as long as some.

With each days pass I am thankful,

Thankful for living a full life,

Whether it be one day or one hundred years.

Every life is full,

Perhaps not to those left behind,

But it was to they that lived it.

It was theirs and no others;

Their birth, life and death,

They knew no different .

This was the gift, the time they were given .

Will I have a tomorrow?

I know not the answer,

I do know that what will be will be,

Of that I am certain

And no amount of angst will alter it.

I cannot think of tomorrow

For it may never come.

What I have is here! Is now!

This is the entirety of life

Until the next moment arrives, God willing

And I’m given a little more time to live…

This full life.

Cherished One

By D. R. DiFrancesco

~~~~
A lavender haze abounds
The scent of lilac and persimmon permeates the air
What heavenly gifts to the senses
You, my love are such a treasure to behold
Bathed in these precious gifts from God
Your ivory skin soft to the touch
Perfumed in natures bounty stimulates my soul
Surely this must be Utopia
For to know you, you must be loved
In you is found serenity
A beauty deeper than the deepest of oceans
What further testimony need be professed
Than that of one enlightened by your being
It is not the physical alone
No, for that would be ensconced in the superficial
This may suffice were it not for your genuine modesty
Mere words can not portray the essence of you
As it is hidden behind a gentle facade
To ask for more would be an act of gluttony
An offence to the glory of nature
A sin against the wisdom of the Creator
You are perfection in my tired eyes
Beloved for all time
The Gift of Simplicity
By D. R. DiFrancesco
The suns glare blinding in it sheer radiance,
Ricocheting off the snow white froth as it lays claim to another piece of shore,
Drawn back to it’s primordial beginnings,
Only to reemerge in it’s own time in some distant land.
The song of the gulls,
Circling and floating in anticipation of their next meal,
A beautiful natural thing to behold,
Lives boiled down to simplicity.
The snap of the blue claw crab,
Rouses me from my trance,
Unafraid, claws raised in defense of his little piece of turf,
Only to surrender it to return to the sea.
Could it be that there are lessons to be learned,
Wisdom in nature so often ignored,
Giving prominence to our petty and corrupt selves,
Hollowed out by our material love.
As high tide comes rushing in,
New shore from distant lands makes this beach it’s home,
I am beckoned to take leave,
Walking away with a gift greater than I dared ask for.
