Shoulder to Shoulder

Shoulder to shoulder;

Ricocheting in pinball

Fashion…I’m alone.

Invisible to the hoard,

I am left almost breathless.

Would they notice my

absence.  It seems unlikely

For such a small fish.

This sea called humanity

Shows its prey little mercy.

Swallowing it whole,

Spitting out the blood and bones,

It’s carnivorous.

Perhaps this truly is my fate

To fall victim to my fears.

  1. There is a lot to ruminate over in this short but vivid poem, Dom. I think we all feel this way without being able to express it as clearly yet poignantly as you do.
