I Am Like Water (Tanka)

I am like water

Soft and pliable yet strong

Moving with the tide

Always going with its flow

Until I meet destiny

A Bell Doth Toll In Distant Tower

A bell doth toll in distant tower.

From my prison balcony

The smell of figs,

Sweet and fragrant waketh me from my trance.

Much prefered to the odor of irony rot oozing from beneath thy ligatures

That holdeth me captive.

Thy constant seeping maketh me nauseous.

O’ how I long to draw my dagger from its leathery sheath;

To feel thy pressure as I spiral into peaceful eternal sleep.

To taste the honey of death woulds’t be such relief,

For this living art not emulous of life.

I blush to think that this is how my end shalt come,

At the hands of thy cowards and fools.

Yet destiny hath no master

And I, but a pawn shalt be sacrificed

For thine greater good.

I committeth my soul into thine hands;

With the hope that thou mayest sleep at night

Knowing the wrong thou hast done,

–I bid thee farewell.

Although They’re Older

Although they’re older

Children still seek approval

It’s human nature

Do not be too judgemental

Or you will push them away

What a tragedy

And a travesty this is

To our flesh and blood

These are wounds that do not heal

Because we need to be right

Yet Another Name

Yet another name

Etched in the blackest granite

Written with their blood

We are called to remember

Each and every spring–in May

Recognizing them

Honoring their families

Their sacrifices

A debt we can not repay

Except with our hearts and minds

Thank you

How Intricate The Knots

How intricate the knots,

The thread so delicate,

I scarcely ever noticed before.

How often had I torn them down

Treating them as a nuisance.

Perhaps out of ignorance,

Perhaps out of misplaced fear,

Picturing a threat where one did not exist.

Without prompt I stopped in my tracks,

Marvelling at this masterpiece

Spun from the lowly spider.

Her web so unlike the tangles of man,

Perfect and symmetrical,

Designed with a divine purpose.

Not to deceive…nay,

But to live and to feed

As the Creator intended.

O’ Ancient One

Andrey Bobir

Andrey Bobir

O’ Ancient One,

Holding the mysteries of the world in your hands.

That which you must have seen,

That which must have graced your ears,

I’m certain it amazed and saddened you at times.

Human nature is nothing if not predictable

Constantly revisiting past mistakes.

You have tried to teach us,

Leaving us your word on parchment,

Chiseled in stone,

Etched on the expression of your face,

But still we refuse to listen.

I take comfort in knowing that you have not given up;.

You remain steadfast as you have for o’er 2500 years,

A reminder of the “Great Way”.

Perhaps someday we will learn

Taking your teachings to heart,

But until then may the Tao forever be with you.

Namaste’

#BringBackOurGirls (Acrostic)

Blinded by time as we always are,

Resolved to forget the distasteful,

Ignoring that which is too painful,

No amount of justification is acceptable for this behavior.

Gathering around Beyonce, JayZ and Solange…is this news?

Bling and elevator drama are these really important?

Anger and outrage should be the response;

Children, our future–that is what’s important!

Kidnappers, inhuman animals, they should be our news.

Our mission, yours and mine.

Undermining peace through fear

Revealing their true selves…they are cowards and thugs.

Getting these girls back should be our only focus;

Innocence demands it!

Regaining focus, putting the frivolous aside, this is our human mission.

Let us unite as one world regardless of race, creed or color and

Stop those that prey on the innocent, the helpless, OUR CHILDREN!

Author’s Note:  I wrote this piece because I am troubled with how quickly the story of the kidnapped school girls in Nigeria has dropped from the headlines of our major media outlets, at least here in the United States.  Instead we have replaced it, once again, with “celebrity” nonsense stories that have no importance to anyone except for the voyeurs out there.   Only by keeping these children in the forefront of our hearts and minds can we ever hope to muster the worldwide resources necessary to bring them home and affect some permanent change in the attitudes of those that I don’t consider civilized.

I Escaped With My Skin (Sonnet)

I escaped with my skin though tattered and torn

Yet feeling far less than whole.

Far less like me than when I was born,

A piece of me it seems to have stole.

I ponder this mystery for reason I’ve not,

No finger can I place on the cause.

Giving my attention giving all that I’ve got,

In spite of my inherent flaws.

This feeling I have is an odd one indeed,

There’s nothing I can pinpoint to blame.

My mind the enabler melancholy it feeds,

Insanity is clearly its aim.

For sanity’s sake I must surely let go or suffer the wrath of its grip,

Still deep in my heart I certainly know this only a momentary slip.
